Harvard is 2-8 against Silver Lake since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Harvard Cardinals just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Silver Lake Mustangs at 6:00 p.m.
Harvard is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 32nd straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 54-10 loss at the hands of Osceola. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-3.
Tabi Forney was Harvard's leading scorer, having posted five points. Forney also led the team in rebounds with nine.
Meanwhile, Silver Lake had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 48-23 margin over the Red Hornets. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 24 points or more this season.
Silver Lake's win came from a few key players Harvard will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Katy Soucek, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makenna Karr, who posted 11 points and eight boards.
Silver Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.
Harvard's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Silver Lake, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Harvard has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Silver Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Harvard was taken down by Silver Lake 56-11 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Harvard was down 43-2.
