The Cranston East Thunderbolts will take on the Barrington Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cranston East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Cranston East is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Tiverton, who was ranked 16th at the time (Cranston East was ranked 15th). The Thunderbolts fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The Thunderbolts' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Cranston East saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Fatorma, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Fatorma is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Barrington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 10-8. Barrington's win was all the more impressive since the Tigers were averaging only 2.79 runs allowed on the season.
Kendall Fisher (2025) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Fontaine, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aislinn McCoy (2025), who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Barrington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in six consecutive games.
Cranston East's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Barrington, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Barrington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Cranston East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Barrington, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Cranston East keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Cranston East suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Barrington in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Thunderbolts have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
