Baseball Recap: Fort Stockton Wins Going Away Against Pecos

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Fort Stockton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Pecos Eagles with a sharp 11-4 victory. Considering the Panthers have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylan Nunez and Gerry Diaz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Nunez struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Diaz pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fort Stockton is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 9-11 otherwise. At the plate, Nunez fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-6, while Diaz went 4-for-6 with one home run and one double. Those four RBI gave Nunez a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gama Corral, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Nick Almendariz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Fort Stockton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pecos only posted a batting average of .306.

The win made it two in a row for Fort Stockton and bumps their season record up to 13-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Pecos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.
