Recap: Summertown Eagles vs. Wayne County Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Summertown Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost to Wayne County on the road by a decisive 74-60 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Summertown in their matchups with Wayne County: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Summertown lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grayson Burleson. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Burleson's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Kurt Burleson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Summertown were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne County only racked up 25 assists.
Wayne County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cayman Camfield led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 25 points, 17 rebounds, and ten assists. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Justice Bell, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Summertown's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-4. As for Wayne County, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Summertown will head out on the road to face off against Loretto at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Tennessee (Loretto is ranked 102nd, while Summertown is ranked 107th). As for Wayne County, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Perry County at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Perry County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Wayne County likes a good challenge.
