Baseball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Leavitt Hornets

The Morse Shipbuilders will challenge the Leavitt Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Morse nor Leavitt posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Leavitt will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Morse extended their winning streak to four on Monday. The Shipbuilders came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Erskine Academy.

Morse's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Murray, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. The Shipbuilders are 3-1 when Murray posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another was Edward Delano, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Leavitt came up short against Medomak Valley on Monday and fell 4-1.

Morse now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Leavitt, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morse has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Leavitt struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Morse came out on top in a nail-biter against Leavitt in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Shipbuilders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
