Softball Preview: Woodlands Academy Wildcats vs. Round Lake Panthers
The Woodlands Academy Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Round Lake Panthers at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Round Lake took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Woodlands Academy, who comes in off a win.
Back in March, Woodlands Academy made easy work of Christ the King and carried off a 10-1 victory. The win was just what Woodlands Academy needed coming off of an 18-5 defeat in their prior matchup.
Abby Hironimus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Hironimus was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all two of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evie Twohig, who went 1-for-1 with a home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Round Lake couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 34-0 walloping at the hands of Wauconda on Monday. The loss means Round Lake is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.
Woodlands Academy took their victory against Round Lake in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodlands Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
