League recap: Jacobs breaks off league-leading run for Estrella Foothills

Estrella Foothills's Najee Jacobs recorded the longest rushing play in IV Section III this season in his game against Antelope last week. Jacobs' team defeated the Rams as he sprinted for 95 yards on the play and finished with 219 in all.

River Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Payson, 44-14. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Dust Devils.

River Valley's dynamic duo of Derek Advocate and Lamarr Scarborough proved tough for the Longhorns to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Advocate threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and Scarborough had 101 yards receiving. Matt Cronn helped River Valley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 64 yards.

Jabril Taylor was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 259 yards as Buckeye bested Payson. Jamarya Guy also contributed to the rushing game with 67 yards on the ground.

Fountain Hills's Justin Steuber and Andrew Capirchio have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading IV Section III in both passing and receiving yards. Steuber has thrown for 1191 yards this season, while Capirchio has 38 catches for 736 yards. The Hawks' Taylor leads the league in rushing yards with 1489.

Estrella Foothills' Jacobs needs only 26 yards against Agua Fria next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Jacobs has rushed for 974 yards on 104 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Dust Devils take on Chino Valley. River Valley is in fourth place, while the Cougars are in 10th place.

The Dust Devils made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,220 from 6,378. The advance stemmed from a 44-14 victory over Jake Swartwood's team last week.
