Preview: Chiefland Indians vs. Taylor County Bulldogs
The Chiefland Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Taylor County Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chiefland is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Last Thursday, Chiefland earned a 7-4 win over Williston. The victory was just what Chiefland needed coming off of a 10-0 defeat in their prior contest.
Mackenzie Fisher spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Chiefland's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Hinote, who went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.
Meanwhile, Taylor County was able to grind out a solid victory over Franklin County on Thursday, taking the game 7-4.
Hannah Shiver was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Shiver has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Shiver was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Durham, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hannah McAfee, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
Chiefland's record is now 4-7. As for Taylor County, their record now sits at 8-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chiefland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Taylor County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 per game. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chiefland couldn't quite finish off Taylor County in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can Chiefland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
