Basketball Recap: Emerald Takes a Loss

Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They came up short against the Wren Hurricanes, falling 63-39. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-26 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Emerald lost, don't look at Jurnee Williams. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Williams has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ketorey Brown was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Emerald smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Leading Wren to victory were Ava O'shields and Hailey Burgess. O'shields dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Burgess dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Emma Kate Garrison, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Emerald's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Wren, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Emerald does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wren, they are taking a road trip to challenge Powdersville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Powdersville will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Wren surely won't give up without a fight.
