Basketball Recap: Hillsborough Falls Despite Big Games from Jaylesia James and Anaja Griffin

Hillsborough was the 59-36 winner over Gaither when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hillsborough Terriers fell 49-39 to the Gaither Cowboys on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Hillsborough had strong showings from Anaja Griffin, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, and Jaylesia James, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points along with six boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Griffin a new career-high in points.

Gaither can attribute much of their success to Carolyn Emanuel, who posted 11 points and seven steals. Jeirany Taveras was another key player, going 5 for 7 en route to 11 points and six rebounds.

Hillsborough's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Gaither, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-10.

Hillsborough didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-12 loss against Sickles on the 24th. As for Gaither, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 45-15 win against Lennard on the 22nd.
