Recap: South Johnston Trojans vs. C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons
There's no place like home for the South Johnston Trojans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 48-47 win over C.B. Aycock. This was payback for South Johnston, who suffered a 62-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.
South Johnston's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Grey Thornton, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thornton has scored all season. Brooke Winborne was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Several Golden Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keytah Kermode, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. South Johnston is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for C.B. Aycock, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Johnston will challenge Hunt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hunt knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully South Johnston likes a good challenge. As for C.B. Aycock, they will head out on the road to face off against West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (West Johnston is ranked 348th, while C.B. Aycock is ranked 371st).
