Soccer Game Preview: Wake Forest vs. Lumberton + How To Watch

The Wake Forest Cougars will challenge the Lumberton Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wake Forest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.7 goals per game this season.

If Wake Forest beats Lumberton with nine goals on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cougars put the hurt on Knightdale with a sharp 9-1 win on Monday. Given Wake Forest's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Knightdale are ranked 430th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wake Forest's offense was hitting Knightdale from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. H. Soden led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Lumberton had taken Hoke County down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Pirates fell just short of the Bucks by a score of 1-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Lumberton haven't been shut out since back in September.

Wake Forest's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those four matchups. As for Lumberton, they now have a losing record of 9-10-1.
