Recap: Southeast Halifax Trojans vs. Northampton County Jaguars
The Southeast Halifax Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Northampton County, falling 55-13. Southeast Halifax was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.
Southeast Halifax's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kemorriya Evans, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, and Iyana Harrison who scored three points along with nine blocks and six rebounds. Evans continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Michaela Hodge continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northampton County, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Hodge is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlice Tyner, who scored no points along with nine rebounds and nine steals.
Southeast Halifax's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Northampton County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Southeast Halifax will face off against Wayne Preparatory Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wayne Preparatory Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southeast Halifax in North Carolina (Wayne Preparatory Academy is ranked 269th, while Southeast Halifax is ranked 590th). Northampton County's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Edgecombe at 4:30 p.m. on January 15th. One thing working in North Edgecombe's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
