Soccer Game Preview: Millbrook vs. Wakefield

The Millbrook Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Wakefield Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Millbrook is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Heritage, who was ranked 18th at the time (Millbrook was ranked 21st). The Wildcats fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Millbrook haven't been shut out since back in March.

Meanwhile, Wakefield kept a clean sheet against Rolesville on Wednesday. They blew past the Rams 5-0. The result was nothing new for Wakefield, who have now won five matches by five goals or more so far this season.

They hit Rolesville with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Kayli Barlett (2), Mallory Stroud (2), and Sara Barlett.

Wakefield has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 50 goals over those eight games. As for Millbrook, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1-2 and their overall record down to 6-2-4.

Millbrook was able to grind out a solid victory over Wakefield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
