Baseball Recap: Edgewood Takes a Loss

Edgewood dropped their record down to 6-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 12-4 to the Geneva Eagles. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 18-6 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Geno Measel was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Edgewood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elliot Tobie, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

As for Geneva, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

On Geneva's side, Ryland Besco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Besco a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Geneva is 2-1 when Besco posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Andrew Oros was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Noah Hicks also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

While Edgewood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
