Baseball Game Preview: St. Francis Fighting Saints vs. Mound-Westonka White Hawks

The St. Francis Fighting Saints will square off against the Mound-Westonka White Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mound-Westonka will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: St. Francis extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Fighting Saints' pitchers stepped up to hand Cambridge-Isanti an 11-0 shutout.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Fiskewold, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tanner Rothbauer, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Mound-Westonka hadn't done well against Southwest Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The White Hawks were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Stars.

Mound-Westonka's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Grayson VanNut, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Mound-Westonka's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for St. Francis, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Everything went St. Francis' way against Mound-Westonka in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as St. Francis made off with a 13-2 victory. Do the Fighting Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the White Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
