Basketball Game Preview: Payson Longhorns vs. Gilbert Christian Knights

The Payson Longhorns will head out on the road to square off against the Gilbert Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Thursday, Payson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-39 to Northwest Christian. The contest marked the Longhorns' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Payson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dane White, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds, and Payton Stuart, who posted eight points and nine boards. Stuart also put up a block, which washis first of the season. Aldan Parsons was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian entered their tilt with Scottsdale Christian Academy on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 70-48 victory. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.

Gilbert Christian's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Payson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
