Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Poudre Impalas
Greeley West and Poudre are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Greeley West Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Poudre Impalas at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Greeley West and three for Poudre.
Greeley West struggled with threes on Tuesday (Northglenn had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Greeley West took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northglenn.
The losing side was boosted by Andrew Zepeda, who scored 16 points. He scored a full 32% of Greeley West's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of River Ortiz, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Poudre pushed their score all the way to 56 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 70-56 to Vista Ridge.
The losing side was boosted by Luke Foster, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds. Finn Hoffman was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Skyline's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Greeley West's loss dropped theirs to 0-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Greeley West have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 18 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Poudre struggles in that department as they've been even better at 25.3 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
