Baseball Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. North Baltimore Tigers

The Elgin Comets will square off against the North Baltimore Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Elgin's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so North Baltimore's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Elgin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Perry on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to the Commodores. The matchup marked the Comets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, North Baltimore waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Pioneers 13-3. Considering the Tigers have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

North Baltimore's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elgin, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.

Elgin was able to grind out a solid win over North Baltimore in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 16-13. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
