Baseball Game Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. Mission College Prep Royals

The Aptos Mariners will head out to take on the Mission College Prep Royals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Aptos came up short against Scotts Valley on Friday, falling 9-2. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Aptos saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alec Mendoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Mendoza a new career-high. Finn Cormier also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mission College Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against St. Joseph on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 5-4. The Royals haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Kyson Hickman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Aptos' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mission College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Aptos suffered a grim 16-10 defeat to Mission College Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Aptos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
