Basketball Recap: Nicholas County Starts Season with Victory Against Summers County

Nicholas County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Summers County Bobcats by a score of 44-33. For the Grizzlies, this counts as revenge for the 50-31 victory the Bobcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Nicholas County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooklyn Nunley led the charge by putting up 13 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Nunley a new career-high in assists (three). Madison Coffman was another key player, shooting 45% from the field en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Summers County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lynnzie Farley, who posted 16 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Persinger, who scored six points and 12 rebounds.

Nicholas County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-52 defeat against Oak Hill on the 4th. As for Summers County, they will take on James Monroe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
