Preview: Gregori Jaguars vs. Edison Vikings
The Gregori Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Edison Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
After a string of three wins, Gregori's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 38-20 to Downey. Gregori was down 38-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Gregori got a solid performance out of Michael Marsden, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. Marsden hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Edison put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Franklin 49-6 at home. Given Edison's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 175th, while Franklin is ranked 918th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Berell Staples, who threw for 194 yards and five touchdowns on only 16 passes. Staples hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Kiaza Calhoun also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Downey's win bumped their season record to 9-1 while Gregori's defeat dropped theirs to 7-3.
Gregori was taken down by Edison 52-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2018. Can Gregori avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
