Baseball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Horizon

Chaparral faced Horizon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Firebirds took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on Tuesday.

Gavin Mesa made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Chaparral: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-10 otherwise.

This is the second loss in a row for Chaparral and nudges their season record down to 14-11. As for Horizon, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-8.
