Basketball Preview: Petrolia Pirates vs. Archer City Wildcats
Petrolia has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Archer City Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Petrolia comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Petrolia beat the Cubs 25-20. The victory was just what Petrolia needed coming off of a 53-25 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Archer City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Seymour, falling 64-34. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Archer City in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.
Archer City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Addy Peters, who scored 13 points along with three steals, and Malia Jones who scored a point. Another player making a difference was Kori Keeter, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Petrolia's win bumped their record up to 12-16. As for Archer City, they dropped their record down to 12-17 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Petrolia came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 35-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Petrolia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
