Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss

Roosevelt lost a heartbreaker to Yonkers when they met back in February of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Monday. The Roosevelt Sharks fell just short of the Yonkers Bulldogs by a score of 32-30. The Sharks have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Roosevelt saw an underclassman step up: freshman Leila Pierce posted 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Pierce.

Roosevelt's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Yonkers, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will take on Saunders Trades & Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Yonkers has already played their next contest (against Barack Obama School for Social Justice), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
