Softball Game Preview: Bayside Marlins vs. Western Branch Bruins

The Bayside Marlins will head out to take on the Western Branch Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Bayside lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Princess Anne, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. Bayside blew past Princess Anne 11-3 on Friday.

Kennedy Allen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Bayside got a massive performance out of La'Mia Estelle, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Kayleigh Leeland-Powell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Bayside hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Princess Anne struck out six times.

Meanwhile, while Western Branch put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Nansemond River. Western Branch put the hurt on Nansemond River with a sharp 14-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Kaileigh Taylor, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Marissa Bernheimer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

Western Branch's record is now 2-0. As for Bayside, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
