Softball Recap: Serra Catholic Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Serra Catholic extended their winning streak to four on Monday, bumping them up to 4-4. They put the hurt on the Jeannette Jayhawks with a sharp 13-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 13 runs or more this season.

Kelly Morrissey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Serra Catholic let Brianna Dobnak and Alonna Morton run wild. Dobnak went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double, while Morton went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Morton has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyara Watkins, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.

As for Jeannette, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 3.44 runs allowed.

On Jeannette's side, Grace Stein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and eight unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 19 Ks.

Serra Catholic has already played their next contest, a 14-1 victory against Monessen on the 15th. As for Jeannette, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 15-0 win against Ellis on the 17th.
