Basketball Game Preview: Port Gibson Blue Waves vs. Jefferson County Tigers

The Port Gibson Blue Waves will head out to square off against the Jefferson County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Port Gibson turned things around against Franklin County on Monday. They secured a 54-50 W over the Bulldogs.

Port Gibson can attribute much of their success to Ger'Kiya Flowers, who went 6 of 15 en route to 28 points. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Flowers has scored at least a third of Port Gibson's points. Another player making a difference was Kanaja Murray, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jefferson County). They blew past Wesson, posting a 69-28 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Jefferson County now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Port Gibson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12.

Port Gibson strolled past Jefferson County in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 56-37. Will Port Gibson repeat their success, or does Jefferson County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
