The Menlo School Knights will head out to challenge the Half Moon Bay Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Menlo School's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Half Moon Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Menlo School nor Sequoia made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Knights fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 2-1. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Menlo School saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Widner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Half Moon Bay took on Woodside on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Wildcats 10-2. Ten seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Maverick Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Half Moon Bay let Jason Couto and Gio Ormando run wild. Couto went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Ormando went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Ormando has posted since back in March.
Half Moon Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.
Half Moon Bay is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Menlo School, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Menlo School beat Half Moon Bay 5-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
