Basketball Recap: St. Paul Comes Up Short

If St. Paul was feeling good fresh off their 46-25 takedown of Ravenna last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The St. Paul Wildcats had to suffer through a 61-25 loss at the hands of the Holdrege Dusters. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-10.

Despite the loss, St. Paul had strong showings from Charlee Wegner, who posted eight points and seven steals, and Aubree Fitzgerald, who went 6-for-13 on her way to 13 points. St. Paul is 7-3 when Wegner posts three or more steals, but 0-10 otherwise.

Keeley Vaughn went supernova for Holdrege, going 7-for-12 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points. Vaughn continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Stutzman, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points.

St. Paul has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Holdrege, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.

St. Paul has already played their next match, a 48-38 defeat against Cozad on the 17th. As for Holdrege, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-37 victory against David City on the 19th.
