Softball Game Preview: Claremont Wolfpack vs. Walnut Mustangs

Claremont is a perfect 4-0 against Walnut since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Claremont beats Walnut with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Wolfpack beat Ontario Christian on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolfpack.

Meanwhile, Walnut made easy work of Valencia on Saturday and carried off a 10-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Player #21 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Kaitlyn McGill was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Randi Avina, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Walnut kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Claremont's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Walnut, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Claremont got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Walnut by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Wolfpack repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
