Basketball Recap: Whittell Comes Up Short

Whittell lost against Virginia City back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Whittell Warriors were dealt a 78-11 defeat at the hands of the Virginia City Muckers. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Muckers are ranked 31st).

Rocky Laremore and Owen Cranch certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Laremore posted five points along with 11 boards and three steals, while Cranch put up no points and five rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Whittell's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Whittell dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Virginia City, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Whittell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-34 defeat against Coleville on the 14th. As for Virginia City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-44 loss against Smith Valley on the 16th.
