Softball Recap: Hewlett Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

Hewlett had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past the West Hempstead Rams 16-4. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2019.

Coralia Savin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Liliana Simon was a standout: she scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Lahey, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Hewlett's win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Looking ahead, Hewlett will welcome Lawrence at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. West Hempstead will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' match: after the Bulldogs faces off against Hempstead, they'll take on West Hempstead again at 5:00 p.m. on May 6.
