Basketball Recap: Monroe Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cairo

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe). They claimed a resounding 95-36 win over the Cairo Syrupmakers. Given the Golden Tornadoes' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Syrupmakers are ranked 435th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lorenzo Still led the charge by going 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points and five steals. What's more, Still also racked up three boards, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nehemiah Tinch, who went 7 of 9 en route to 19 points.

Monroe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Cairo, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will face off against Westover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Westover comes in on four and Monroe on three. As for Cairo, they will challenge Dougherty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
