Basketball Recap: Emery Comes Up Short

Emery lost against Athenian back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Emery Spartans took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Athenian Owls.

Athenian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ali Algaal led the charge by putting up 19 points. The dominant performance gave Algaal a new career-high in points. Teni Salako was another key player, posting 15 points.

Emery's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Athenian, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Emery will square off against Quarry Lane at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Athenian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Athenian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
