Basketball Game Preview: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Cypress Creek Coyotes

Weeki Wachee is 8-1 against Cypress Creek since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Weeki Wachee Hornets will be playing at home against the Cypress Creek Coyotes at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Weeki Wachee's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while Cypress Creek has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Last Tuesday, Weeki Wachee earned a 43-30 win over Nature Coast Tech.

Weeki Wachee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Halter, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. Halter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Karly Pasmore, who posted eight points and seven steals.

Weeki Wachee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cypress Creek played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 66-40 to Wesley Chapel. The Coyotes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-15.

Weeki Wachee has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Cypress Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Weeki Wachee won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in November of 2024, slipping by Cypress Creek 41-40. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cypress Creek's Deslynn Nickell, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 16 points and four steals.
