Baseball Recap: Watsonville Comes Up Short

Watsonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gilroy Mustangs. The Wildcatz were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Watsonville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Lara, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. That's the most hits Lara has posted since back in March of 2024.

Watsonville's record now sits at 0-3. As for Gilroy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Watsonville will welcome Greenfield at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilroy, they will head out on the road to square off against Rancho San Juan at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gilroy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
