Softball Recap: Irvine Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Irvine had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 6-14 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over the University Trojans. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-2 on April 7th.

Abby Sasaki was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Reese Villanueva, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Irvine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for University, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

On University's side, Amela Hoang made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Sophia Weinberg was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Irvine is taking a road trip to take on Long Beach Poly at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for University, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Trabuco Hills at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
