Softball Game Preview: Stafford Spartans vs. Royal Falcons

Stafford is 9-1 against Royal since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Stafford will welcome Royal at 6:30 p.m. Stafford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

If Stafford beats Royal with 16 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Stafford was the clear victor by a 16-4 margin over Almeta Crawford on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Jovaughna Mendez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Mendez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Noehli Torres was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Eliza Martinez was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Stafford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Royal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Sealy, falling 25-0. Considering the last time the Falcons couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

Royal's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Stafford, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6-1.

Everything went Stafford's way against Royal in their previous matchup on March 1st, as Stafford made off with a 19-1 win. Does Stafford have another victory up their sleeve, or will Royal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
