Basketball Recap: Southern Wells Raiders vs. Jay County Patriots
It was a good run, but the Southern Wells Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. The contest between them and Jay County wasn't particularly close, with Southern Wells falling 53-39. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Southern Wells of the 52-49 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Southern Wells' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chandler Oswalt, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Perrin Gates, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Jay County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liam Garringer, who scored seven points along with six assists and six steals. Garringer hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Wesley Bihn, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Southern Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Jay County, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9.
Southern Wells will take on the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Indiana (Elwood is ranked 381st, while the Raiders are ranked 406th). As for Jay County, they will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
