Baseball Recap: Howell Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Howell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Jackson Memorial Jaguars on Thursday. This was payback for the Rebels, who suffered a 7-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Phillip Christopher tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Howell is 5-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-8-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Aaron Wojenski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Howell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-9-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Waylon Cavanagh, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Howell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Howell has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Jackson Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Looking ahead, Howell will venture away from home to square off against Wall Township at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Jackson Memorial, they will host Toms River North at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
