Softball Recap: The Christian Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against the Pilgrim Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask The Christian Academy). They blew past The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers 22-8 on Thursday. With that victory, The Christian Academy brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Avery Burghart made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tori Townsend was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amanda Daniels, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

The Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for The Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for The Pilgrim Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, The Christian Academy will square off against Atlantic Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for The Pilgrim Academy, they will be playing at home against King's Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
