Basketball Recap: Josh Coleman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Portal over Mcintosh County Academy

Portal lost against McIntosh County Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Portal Panthers fell 63-52 to the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 77th).

Portal lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Josh Coleman, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Coleman a new career-high. Rasheen Jackson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

McIntosh County Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mj Quarterman, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Quarterman has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Neo West, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and five steals.

Portal's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for McIntosh County Academy, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Portal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-40 win against Emanuel County Institute on the 1st. As for McIntosh County Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-30 victory against Metter on the 1st.
