Softball Recap: Hoffman Estates Comes Up Short

Hoffman Estates extended their losing streak to 18 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-18 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Buffalo Grove Bison. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bison from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Buffalo Grove, their record now sits at 8-10. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Buffalo Grove's part, Brooklyn Edler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Edler has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Erin Ryan and Hayley Cohen did most of the damage at the plate: Ryan fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4, while Cohen went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Cohen a new career-high. Paige Veller was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Hoffman Estates will challenge Palatine at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buffalo Grove, they will take on Schaumburg at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saxons have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
