Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

After losing to East Lyme the last time they met, Haddam-Killingworth decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cougars blew past the Vikings 12-1 on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Emma Giaccone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Haddam-Killingworth got a massive performance out of Olivia LaTorre, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Claire Eighmy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Haddam-Killingworth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Lyme only posted an OBP of .321.

Haddam-Killingworth is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for East Lyme, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Haddam-Killingworth didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-3 win against Old Lyme on the 19th. As for East Lyme, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 22-5 defeat against Norwich Free Academy on the 16th.
