Softball Recap: Huntington North Takes a Loss

Huntington North had lost eight straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it nine. They lost 10-0 to the Leo Lions. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Leo, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Leo's part, not much got past Leah Shappell, who gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Huntington North off the board. Shappell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carley Funk was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Luci Schott, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huntington North will challenge Norwell at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Leo, they will face off against Fairfield at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
