Baseball Recap: Fairbanks Comes Up Short

Fairbanks extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grandview Heights Bobcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

Mason Rausch and Dayne Madison did some serious damage despite the final result: Rausch went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Madison went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Liam Rhea was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Grandview Heights, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Grandview Heights' side, Grant Gambone made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gambone was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Grandview Heights let Michael Greer and Sam Bandy run wild. Greer went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Bandy went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Greer has become a key player for Grandview Heights: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Fairbanks will take on Southeastern Local at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Grandview Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Whitehall-Yearling at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
