Basketball Recap: Waccamaw Victorious

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Waccamaw's strategy against Ragin Prep Christian Academy on Friday. The Waccamaw Warriors walked away with a 49-40 win over the Ragin Prep Christian Academy Rams. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

AJ Grate had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Devontae Cobb, who posted six points and three steals.

Waccamaw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Ragin Prep Christian Academy lost, don't look at Kayshaun Rutherford. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Rutherford has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Aiden Zuell, who put up seven points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Waccamaw's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Ragin Prep Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Waccamaw wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-48 win against Hanahan on the 21st. As for Ragin Prep Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-60 defeat against Carvers Bay on the 21st.
