Football Recap: Palmetto Tigers vs. Gateway Eagles

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmetto). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Gateway Eagles 70-6. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Eagles are ranked 370th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Matthew Hennesey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 221 yards and seven touchdowns on only 15 passes. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 16 passing touchdowns on the season. Palmetto's leading receiver Maurice Carter was Hennesey's top target yet again, picking up 95 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Palmetto's defense and their eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Isaiah Tyson and Tyron Harris, who racked up four sacks between them.

Palmetto pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.0 points on average over those games. As for Gateway, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
