It's playoff time, and Columbia had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Pass Christian Pirates 13-3 on Saturday. Considering the Wildcats have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Collin Haney was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Haney was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, MT Breland and Brayden Thornhill did most of the damage at the plate: Breland went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Thornhill got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. What's more, Thornhill posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. JP Haddox was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Columbia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Pass Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-21 record this season.
